LAKE ALMANOR: The bite heats up as the water cools down, and both bank anglers and boaters are finding improved action on rainbows and browns. The annual Ice Fishing Derby in February is seeking a director. Fly fishing guides have been reporting solid action for rainbows in the mornings, and shore fishermen are finding some action despite the dispersing schools of trout. LAKE DAVIS: 10,000 Lake Shasta-strain rainbows were released into the lake this past week with half of the load being diploid with the remainder triploid. Catfish to 8 pounds have also been taken near the dam on chicken livers. 3000 pounds of rainbow trout were planted into the lake this past week, and shore fishing is best from the Open Area with orange trout dough bait while trollers are scoring rainbows to 4.5 pounds with Rapalas or Speedy Shiners near the Power Lines or the dam at depths to 20 feet. Schools of bright fish moved through last week.ĬOLLINS LAKE: The Nor-Cal Trout Anglers Challenge took place over the past weekend, and the results for the two-day tournament were not available at press time. With lower flows, downstream trolled M2 FlatFIsh and K14 Kwikfish also are working. SACRAMENTO RIVER, Sacramento: Salmon fishing is fair from Miller Park to Garcia Bend, where trollers are using Silvertron spinners or Pro Troll flashers and Brad’s Super Baits.
